The first issue of the Oxford Journal, the “Friendly Home Paper of Central & Eastern Cumberland County” weekly came off the press on June 22, 1898. It remains one of the last privately owned newspapers in existence. It has been owned and published by the Marchant family for about 107 of those years. Paul, the fourth generation Marchant, is the current publisher.
Though the paper is not printed in-house, the Oxford Journal is well-known and respected for its quality customized printing.
